Base bathrooms

Janet P.: My girlfriend swears by alkaline bath additives and often lies in alkaline water for hours. Can I also soak in ionized alkaline water from my water ionizer?

Very few so-called alkaline mineral salts actually make the bath water alkaline, as they are neutral salts that only dissolve in the water with a slight change in pH. Measure your friend's bath salts by dissolving them in a glass of cold water. Most of the time the pH will not change unless the salt contains strong base formers such as potassium carbonate. In this case, the addition does not give you alkaline active water, but rather a more or less strongly buffered lye containing the corresponding minerals. Lyes are traditionally used for washing and cleaning purposes. Whether they have any purpose other than removing oil and dirt from the skin is at least controversial. Bathing in it for hours leads to the skin being drained and its protective function being reduced.

Heated water cleans better than cold water. First measure your cold tap water, then your bath-warm water (without additives): The outgassing of carbon dioxide during heating causes the pH value of the water to rise significantly in the alkaline direction. The warmth of the water, and not the base powders, is usually the reason for the higher pH value.

Baths in warmed alkaline active water are not easy to prepare because the water is heated during normal warm-up processes —> Redox potential loses and separates the minerals. However, Soviet researchers in Tashkent managed to find so-called —> Catholyte baths with electrically activated water, in which a negative redox potential was retained.

This was done using special STEL® water ionizers that could produce 30 liters/minute. Katholyte full baths have a toning, strengthening and relaxing effect on the body. Sunburns heal quickly. According to the research of the Tashkent team (—> Russian research) spas in Katholyt should be limited to a maximum of 7 minutes. In a bathtub, around two thirds of the skin's surface comes into contact with the electrons in the bath water. Negative redox potentials are transferred into the blood through the skin.

In fact, hydrogen that migrates from it migrates into the body and is responsible for the negative redox potential - as we have known since 2008. About 1/3 of the circulating blood benefits from this transcutaneous treatment method and can therefore mathematically transfer the antioxidant effect to 4% of the total internal fluid. According to Russian experience, the bathing temperature should not be below 33 degrees Celsius. A bathing series includes 10 baths every 2-3 days. According to Prilutsky and Bakhir, failure to follow the instructions for use can lead to deterioration in health and cardiac dysfunction. Therefore, medical supervision is absolutely necessary.

It is not a problem to use shower heads that use the chemicals in them to raise the pH value slightly and lower the redox potential a little. For more details see —> chemical water ionization. Since the change in the water is very small and there is no electrical water activation, the shower time does not have to be limited.

Spa and dermatologists favor baths in acidic water. The pleasant effect of bathing through warmth and reduced gravity also occurs without the skin's protective acid mantle having to be rebuilt. According to the latest studies, this is between pH 4,1 and 5,9, with an average of 4,9. (Source: Segger, D., et. al., Multicenter study on measurement of the natural pH of the skin surface, International Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 30, Issue 1, page 75, February 2008).

Anyone who describes the skin's protective acid mantle as a "fairy tale" and describes a skin pH value of pH 7 - 8 as normal or even recommends alkaline baths with bathing times of 12 hours or longer should perhaps take a look at the facts. Skin with an alkaline pH value would invite invading germs to multiply.
