Inline lime softener cartridge, sodium ion exchange resin, including regeneration set for brine

Remove limescale from the water

You can soften hard water with a softener cartridge.

Since it is a regenerable sodium ion exchanger cartridge, once the softening has subsided, you can easily regenerate the system yourself using a saline solution (brine, can also be crystal salt) according to the following instructions.

To extend the regeneration intervals, you can use two cartridges or three cartridges in parallel. If the result is not enough for you, you also have the option of connecting two or three cartridges in a row.

The softener's performance decreases after about 2-3 years, after which the cartridge should be changed.

Step 1: Making the brine solution

Place the measuring cup on the scales, fill in approx. 60 grams of regenerating salt (sodium chloride or table salt) and fill up to 0,3 liters with water. Stir until the salt is completely dissolved. Please stir intensively with a spoon, the regenerating salt only slowly dissolves completely. If some salt crystals are not dissolved, they should not be picked up with the syringe. Tip: Prepare one day in advance.

Step 2: Preparing the softener cartridge

Close the water inlet for the filter system including the softener. Reduce the pressure in the system by opening the water outlet tap. Open both service valves at the top and bottom of the softener.

Step 3: Transfer the regenerating solution into the cartridge

Transfer the regeneration solution into the cartridge using the syringe and repeat the process until all of the solution (0,3 liters) has been injected into it. Position a collecting cup or bucket or similar on the outlet side so that the emerging solution runs over the hose section into the collecting cup.

Step 4: Close the valve on the inlet of the softener cartridge

Step 5: Flushing the brine solution from the softener cartridge:

Now let approx. two liters of water slowly flow through the water inlet to the filter system and flow out again via the lower service outlet valve.

Step 6: Close the 2nd service valve at the bottom of the softener

Now close the service valve at the outlet of the softener cartridge. Alternatively, after completing step 5, the softener can also be rinsed using the tap of your flow filter system. With a water ionizer, you can use filtered water mode to flush the softener cartridge.

Step 7: Finalize the regeneration

Open the water inlet, paying attention to the tightness of the entire filter system. Open the tap (extraction tap, or the water ionizer in filtered water mode). Allow another two to three liters of water to drain (rinse).

The system is now ready for use again for the next 300 to 1000 liters of softer water. With every liter, its performance decreases again until it no longer softens at all or you decide when to regenerate again. In the worst case, the cartridge does nothing. Each new or freshly regenerated softener cartridge replaces the lime content of the input water by around 10 °dH or reduces it by 10 °dH.

To extend the regeneration intervals, you can use two cartridges or three cartridges in parallel. If the result is not enough for you, you also have the option of connecting two or three cartridges in a row.
