Disinfecting a water ionizer | How does it work?

Disinfection is usually not necessary. For some applications, for example in the commercial sector, it is definitely advisable to disinfect the spout by spraying and wiping with a 10% hydrogen peroxide solution. This eliminates any germs that can be transmitted by touching the spout with bare hands.

For particularly effective cleaning/disinfection, we recommend completely rinsing the device with 10% hydrogen peroxide solution. You can get them at the pharmacy.
How is it prepared?

Pour approximately 300 to 500 mL of 10% hydrogen peroxide solution into a beaker.

Switch the device off at the main switch (on the side) or pull out the power plug.

Loosen the hose for draining the acidic water on the device and attach the loose end of the hose that is attached to the descaling pump to the device. Rotate the active water spout arm over the cup so that the solution can circulate while the pump is running.

Place the pump in the container, see illustration. Make sure that the container with the pump is at the same height as the Aquion active water system. Important: Water supply to the device (switching soda maker or rotary control) remains switched off!

Please note that the pump volume control is set to max. (“+”).

Plug the pump's power plug into the power outlet. Please note: it may take a while for the solution to flow out of the active water outlet arm after switching on the pump! Occasionally, air bubbles form that restrict the flow of water. It helps to switch the pump off and on several times (unplug and plug in again).

Let the pump run for approx. 30 minutes. Make sure that no splashes of the solution get onto clothing etc., the solution has a strong bleaching effect! (It was also previously used for bleaching.) Avoid contact with eyes, if it does happen, rinse with plenty of water and consult a doctor.

Disconnect the pump from the device and reinstall the gray drain hose for acidic water.

Turn the rotary control from off to on or let water run through the Aquion active water system for a few minutes using the switchover soda maker to rinse out the remaining solution. Stop the water supply.

Now turn the device on at the switch and let water flow into the device (rotary control to on or via switchover bubbler) - done!

Tip before you reinstall the drain hose on the device (point 8): Disconnect the hose from the pump and connect the hose for the acid water outlet (which you separated from the device before disinfecting) to the pump and let it Run the hydrogen peroxide solution through the outlet hose for a few minutes using the pump.

After disinfecting, rinse the pump well under running water. If the pump does not work properly when you use it again, simply remove the front part of the pump and rinse the impeller well with water.
